The AP Does it Again

In today's installment of our continuing series "The Daily Bias," we have the AP continuing to forget that the Roadblock For Peace (oops! I mean, Roadmap for Peace) applies to Palestinians as well as Israel.

Today the AP moved on the wire a story entitled, "Abbas Seeks Peace Meeting With Sharon."

Aw, shucks. What a peace-loving guy! Too bad Abbas isn't doing a frigging thing to carry out Palestinian obligations under the Roadmap, which requires the Palestinians to commence dismantling the terrorist infrastructure.

Instead, according to this AP piece, the burden is all on Sharon. The piece says that "Abbas. . . is seeking assurances that the planned Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip will be an initial step toward implementing the long-dormant, internationally backed 'road map' peace plan, which envisions the creation of a Palestinian state."

As for fighting terrorism, a requirement of the roadmap, the piece says: "Abbas has preferred to negotiate with militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad to end attacks but has refused to move against them as Israel and the United States demand."

In other words, what we have here is a unilateral "demand" by Israel and the U.S., and not an agreed-upon, reciprocal step which the Palestinians are required to carry out under the roadmap.

You will note that this is identical to the boo-boo in the AP story that was noted in our first installment of the series. As a matter of fact, the inaccurate language (describing the roadmap as a "demand") is identical!

Got to say this much about the folks at the AP--they're consistent. Not fair, not accurate, but consistent.
