Tharoor Does it Again: This Time it's Ilan Pappe!

In an earlier entry I described how the UN's Minister of Propganda, Shashi Tharoor, gave a platform in 2001 to the disgraceful anti-Semite Israel Shamir. This nauseating story was first reported in the Transatlantic Intelligencer blog.

Well, you can't say Tharoor isn't consistent. Look at the announcement issued today by Tharoor's Propaganda Ministry, known east of First Avenue as the "Department of Public Information." On June 13 and 14, the DPI is hosting an "International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East" in the friendly, warm confines of Cairo, Egypt. And look at who's "representing" Israel: None other than Ilan Pappe.

That's right. Tharoor's army of shills, propagandists and bureaucrats searched all over Israel for an academician who could represent Israeli public opinion, and they found Pappe, the famous self-hating Israeli, boycott-supporter and mega-Moonbat who disgraces the faculty of the University of Haifa.

Yessir, the same off-the-charts-extremist anti-Zionist loon who was at the center of the controversy surrounding the brief British boycott of Israeli universities. Pappe was cited by the Brit academics in support of the boycott. Seems Pappe was shunned, very correctly, for defending a graduate student who wrote a Master's thesis falsely claiming that 200 unarmed civilians were massacred by the Haganah in 1948. A description of that controversy can be found here. Another example of Pappe in full flower of cupidity can be found in a May 16 Jerusalem Post article.

Well, Pappe's back--and you can thank Tharoor for that. He's sharing the stage with an illustrious bunch of professional Israel bashers, including, from the Israeli side, Israeli peaceniks Shulamit Aloni and Yossi Katz. Aaron David Miller represents the American-Jewish "Peace Now" types who make their living from this kind of thing. The Palestinians--and, of course, only the Palestinians, are actually represented by people representing their constituents' point of view.

The Propaganda Ministry communique says that this talk-fest has "the overall theme 'Reinvigorating the Peace Process: The Role of International and Regional Actors in Facilitating a Comprehensive, Just and Lasting Peace in the Middle East.'” It will "provide a forum for media representatives and international experts to present their perspectives on international and regional involvement in pursuing a peaceful solution" blah blah blah--and, above all, to waste still more taxpayer dollars on yet another UN Israel-bashing event.

Way to go, Shashi Tharoor! Just goes to show you that your bloated bureaucracy is hard at work doing one of its most important jobs, which is to villify Israel. And not just the "Palestine, Decolonization and Human Rights Section." I mean the entire Propaganda Ministry, seven hundred strong. Great to see our tax dollars at work!
